Bring Your A-Game—And Keep God at the Center

There’s no shortage of career advice telling women what to do next: Speak up. Build your brand. Grow your network. Get the promotion. Make the move.

All good things.

But as Christian career women, we should also be asking:

Who am I becoming while I’m building the career, chasing the goal, and making the moves?

Because God cares about our character, not just our résumé.

So yes, bring your A-game. Pursue excellence. Develop your leadership. Use your gifts. But keep God at the center.

Here are five qualities to help you do just that.

Humility: You Don’t Have to Shrink

Philippians 2:3 calls us to humility. But humility and playing small are not the same thing.

Own your accomplishments. Talk about your strengths. Apply for the promotion. Sit at the table like you belong there.

Because you do.

Humility is being able to acknowledge your strengths while also saying, “I was wrong,” “I made a mistake,” or “I don’t know.”

You can know what you bring to the table without making everything about you.

Confidence: Stop Talking Yourself Out of the Room

I need more experience.

Someone else is more qualified.

Maybe next year.

Meanwhile, someone with half the qualifications has already applied.

Girl. Apply.

Proverbs 14:26 reminds us that reverence for God gives us strong confidence. Our confidence isn’t based on having all the answers. It’s rooted in knowing we don’t have to do any of this alone.

Confidence says: I know what I bring to the table.

Humility says: I know Who gave it to me.

You need both.

Self-Control: Everything Cannot Be a Yes

Proverbs 25:28 compares someone without self-control to a city with broken-down walls.

Every invitation doesn’t require a yes. Every email doesn’t require an immediate response. And every workplace emergency does not have to become your emergency.

Set boundaries around your time, energy, health, and priorities. And then honor them.

Because boundaries don’t work particularly well when you’re the one who keeps breaking them.

Generosity: Another Woman’s Win Is Not Your Loss

First Timothy 6:18 calls us to be generous and willing to share.

That includes more than money.

Share your knowledge. Make the introduction. Mentor another woman. Recommend her for the opportunity. Say her name when she’s not in the room.

You don’t lose influence by helping another woman build hers.

There’s room for both of you.

Perseverance: Hard Doesn’t Automatically Mean Stop

James 1:4 tells us to let perseverance finish its work.

Careers have plot twists: closed doors, missed opportunities, difficult seasons, pivots, and moments when you think, Lord, are we still doing this?

Sometimes God redirects us.

But sometimes?

It’s just hard.

And hard doesn’t automatically mean stop.

The difficult season may be developing the strength, wisdom, and endurance you’ll need for what’s next.

Bring Your A-Game

Go after the promotion. Build the business. Make the move. Speak up. Use your gifts.

But while you’re asking God, “What’s next?”, also ask:

“Who are You shaping me to become?”

More humble? More confident? More disciplined? More generous? More willing to persevere?

Becoming your best isn’t simply about becoming more impressive.

It’s about becoming the woman God created you to be.

So bring your gifts. Bring your ideas. Bring your leadership.

Bring your A-game—and keep God at the center.
